At 21, Caitlin McFarlane will make her first World Cup start in the night slalom in Courchevel.
For TopSkiNews, Caitlin shares her journey and her state of mind a few hours before setting off on the Stade Emile Allais with bib number 70.
For those who don’t know you yet, can you introduce yourself?
I was born in Sydney and moved to France at the age of 3 to St Jean d’Aulps (Haute Savoie). Today, I live in Morzine and I am a member of the St Jean d’Aulps ski club. I learned to ski there.
Before joining the French Ski team in Albertville, I played a lot of football at the Morzine club. I joined the French Alpine Ski Team at 16 and I have been skiing on the European Cup circuit for 2 to 3 years.
I’m here in Courchevel to try my luck at my first World Cup start.
In what frame of mind are you approaching this first World Cup slalom that you will be racing at home?
I’m just looking forward to it. I don’t really feel stressed because it’s in France and it’s a track I know well. I’ve already skied it a lot in training and racing, especially in FIS.
I only want to go there!
What is your dream for tonight after the slalom?
“First of all, it’s to be in the Top 30. So to be able to do a full race with two rounds.”
Caitlin McFarlane will start the first round with bib number 70.
